Christ is risen! Alleluia! He is risen indeed!
This Easter season we celebrate the risen Christ. It is not a miracle for someone to predict they’ll be put to death because they have seriously challenged the political and religious authorities. And it is not hard for someone to say he’ll return to God’s right hand after death because how could anyone prove or disprove that claim?
But this is indeed miraculous: to say that you’ll bodily rise from the dead, and then physically return to show that you have mastery over death itself. This we believe is the final proof that Jesus was indeed the Son of God! Jesus promised he would overcome death, and he did it!!
This gives us confidence that we can believe the other promises he made to us. We trust that he can forgive our sins. We trust that his living word can radically change our lives – how we serve others with love and compassion, how we care for the environment, how we carry on God’s mission in the world, how we stand against oppression and injustice, and how we remember to thank God for all his blessings. Our lives are transformed as we “take up our own crosses” and walk boldly forward with Christ as our guiding light.
We at St. John’s invite you to come and hear more about this glorious Easter story and grow with us as disciples in faith. Peace be with you!
