Stock your pantry with non-perishable food items and everyday paper goods (paper towels, toilet paper, diapers, etc.) as you find them on sale over the next month. (Those 10 for $10 specials would be a good place to start.)
Our “raiders” will be out in full force on the afternoon of February 26th to collect “the goods” and take them to the Morrow Co. Community Action Program (CAP).
Fine Print… ...For those of you who need some introduction to our Pantry Raid, our Luther League will divide up into teams of 3 – 4 members per car. On Sunday afternoon, February 26th, you may be visited by overly-anxious Leaguers looking to raid your pantry. They will be armed with a grocery list of very specific items. While any donation you make will earn their team points, if you can donate the exact item on their list, they will earn bonus points. Hint: soup is a high-point item — any variety.
This is a “timed” event, which means the teams need to return to the church by 4 p.m. Sometimes there have been folks who had grocery items for us to pick up, but due to the time constraints, none of the teams made it to their homes. If this happens to you, please understand that you have not been ignored, time just got away from us (as time has a way of doing). Please bring your items with you the following Sunday morning, and we will be sure they make it to the Food Pantry with the other items that were collected. Or, if you know you will not be home on the afternoon of the 26th, you may bring your non-perishables to church with you that morning and we will put your name on a “Do Not Call” list. After all, the real purpose of this event is to re-stock the local food pantry. Many folks think to donate to the food banks during the Thanksgiving and Christmas seasons, but after the food of December’s bounty has been distributed, there is still a need in the colder months of winter as well. Please know that once you have been “hit” you will be given the option to have a sticker put on your door. This will keep our anxious Raiders from totally picking your pantry shelves clean and leaving you wondering what you will have for lunch on Monday! |
